ACRYLIC PAINTING SUPPLIES

What acrylic painting supplies does one need when first starting a project?   There are several factors to consider.  First of all, you must choose an item you want to paint. Will it be on canvas? - or will it be on wood?   Perhaps you want to
paint on a candle, clothing or paper.   This is a decision you must make in order to decide what acrylic painting supplies to gather together.

CHOOSE YOUR PROJECT
Once the project is chosen, a pattern or a design of some sort must be selected. You can find a multitude of ideas in the acrylic painting supplies department of nearly every craft supply store, either in books or on design sheets. You may even decide to use a stencil, if you prefer that method.   If you are not using a stencil,  you will more than likely want to trace your design pattern on the item to be painted so be sure to purchase correct transfer paper for your project.  Carbon paper is not the proper thing to use for transferring your painting patterns.

PAINT TYPES AND COLORS!

After you have chosen the project and design,  while in the craft supplies area of the store, check out the wide variety of paint types and colors available. Most of these will be in 2 oz. ready-to-use bottles and the label will suggest what surface they may be applied to for best results. While some acrylic paints may be used on a multitude of surfaces, there are specific acrylic paints that have been developed especially for certain surfaces to give even better,  longer-lasting results.   For instance, special acrylic paints have been formulated for use on paper.   Others are designed for painting on outdoor items.  Even others are best suited for painting glass and ceramic items- and the list goes on.  Plaid Enterprises, Inc., has just introduced a brand new textile paint which is flexible and will not crack,  even after several washings.   If you have trouble choosing the correct paint,  check with the sales clerk of the acrylic painting department of the store.

CHOOSE THE CORRECT BRUSHES!
Another very important factor in choosing your acrylic supplies is picking the correct brush.  There are brushes available of all sizes, shapes, bristle type, etc.  Choosing the right brush will play a big part in the results you get. For best results, be sure to purchase brushes best suited to the type of paint you will be using,  also considering the design you will be painting.   In other words,  certain strokes are best painted with particular styles of brushes so you must consider this also. It is best to check with someone in the acrylic painting supplies area who is knowledgeable about brushes and their uses.   (In many cases, your instruction book will tell you what paints and brushes to use.)

KITS CONTAIN NEARLY EVERYTHING!
If at all possible, as a rule, it is more practical to purchase your acrylic painting supplies in kit form. You will find this to be a money-saver, and all the supplies needed for your project, (except in many cases, the item itself to be painted) will be included.  In one purchase you will get a book or pattern, paints and brushes specific for each other and for the project, complete instructions and often even a DVD to watch as you paint.

In addition to the above-mentioned acrylic painting supplies ( brushes, paints, stencils and hundreds of books) the serious painter can find numerous other supplies for his or her hobby.   Check out the craft supplies in our online shopping mall and take a look at everything that is available.
