GETTING FAMILIAR WITH ACRYLIC PAINTS

WHERE SHOULD WE START?
This is for those of you who have very little or no experience using acrylic paints.  You possibly will want to start with a simple project to familiarize yourself with how these paints respond.

THINKING BACK ? ? ?
I have tried to recall the first time I used acrylics,  but for the life of me, I cannot remember.   It's been a long time ago!   I can remember having watercolors as a child,  but that method of painting never really appealed to me.   I fondly remember some kits I had as a child.   If you think back,  perhaps you had them, too.   These kits had rubber molds in which we poured plaster of paris,  which when hardened formed a plain object,  usually a small car, truck, or Disney character, as I recall.  Later, when thoroughly dry,  we (my brother and I) would paint these.

This was perhaps my first experience using acrylic paints.  What fun that was!   I enjoyed that so much that in later years I made and supplied 100's of unpainted plaster statues and wall plaques to retail outlets. And of course,  along with that I painted many of them with acrylic paints.

PAINT-BY-NUMBER!
However,  I do remember at some time or other in my life painting 'Paint-by-Number' paintings.    And if I were to recommend a starting point to someone just wanting to 'get their feet wet' in
acrylic painting,   I think this would be where I would suggest to start.    These kits come with everything included:  the canvas or board  (in various sizes)  to be painted, preprinted with markings for placement of every color,   acrylic paints,  a brush and complete instructions.  These are very inexpensive, and the results are surprisingly beautiful.   This would give you a great beginning in working with acrylics.   Mister Art has a great selection of these.
