HAND-PAINTED GREETING CARDS Greeting cards are so nice to receive. Whatever the occasion may be, we like to know we have been thought of. It just gives us a special feeling. And when we receive a very special greeting card, one we know the sender has made an extra effort to choose, we feel even more special. It seems there are greeting cards for any and every occasion we can think of. The variety is almost endless, and the designs range from gorgeous to outrageous. But even with the vast array of cards that are available, a homemade card, when nicely made, as a rule outshines all others. How much more desirable, then, is a hand-painted greeting card! Do you keep your favorites of all the cards you receive? I do. Don’t you think that a hand-painted card, one you painted yourself, would be especially treasured? Of course it would. This isn’t just a greeting card - it is a hand-painted painting, a personal gift from you, the artist and sender, to the receiver. Years ago a classmate gave me, not a card, but a small painting she had painted, not much larger than a greeting card. A lot of time has gone by, but I have kept and treasured that painting all these years. Recently, at our class reunion, another classmate remarked that she has kept a similar painting from that same classmate who gave me mine. It may not have seemed like so much to the friend who gave us these, but to us, the receivers, it was a special gift to be kept for years and years. In all this time it has not lost the special meaning that came with it. A hand-painted card will have the same effect. Who would not appreciate a card that you have taken your own special time and given such special effort to create? Painting your own greeting cards does not have to be a complicated chore. There are a number of books available to guide you through the process. And even though my own preferred medium is acrylic paint, I’ve seen instructional books with great watercolor designs also. Donna Dewberry has in print a number of designs for painting on cards and paper with the One Stroke Painting Technique which she created. This is a simple method of painting, which I mostly use. Many people who have been unable to paint in the past have mastered this simple technique of painting. The instructions in these books are very easy to follow, and with a little practice, you will soon be an artist (if you are not one already.) With the arrival of a new Papier paint, painting on paper has been made easier. This paint is available also in a dimensional texture, adding beauty, interest and depth to your card designs. If you still somewhat overwhelmed at the thought of painting your own card, another idea for painting on your cards is to use stencils and acrylic paint. There are very nice stencils available, many of which give a truly hand-painted result. You can easily purchase ready-made plain cards and envelopes, just waiting for you to add your own decorative touch. For even more fun, originality, and creativity, you might consider making your own cards and envelopes. There are neat templates available, if needed. And if you want to go one step further, perhaps making your own paper for your cards completely from ‘scratch’ would be up your alley. (We will be talking more about this soon so be sure to check back.) In the meantime, why not get started and paint some greeting cards for the special people in your life? I’m sure the receivers will be extremely pleased, and you will certainly have a great feeling of satisfaction. * * * * * * * * Home-Based Greeting Business System - Discover How To Turn Your Favorite Hobby -Making Greeting Cards - Into A Profitable Business.
